Cybele Pascal

In addition to her work in the theater, and a variety of writing jobs including a weekly romance advice column for Oxygen Media and AOL Teens, Cybele has had a lifelong passion for cooking and food history. She grew up on Cape Cod in a family of notoriously excellent cooks, with a large organic garden, which was harvested to cook delicious and exciting meals throughout her childhood. "Sustainable Cuisine" was a family way of life, and a tenet she continues to practice in her inventive and healthy recipes today.

Cybele was taught to cook as a very young child by her grandmother, who became a superlative home chef during her many years living in Italy. She believes that recipes are a form of heritage, and over the years, has learned to cook dishes handed down from her Southern ancestors, as well as her Eastern European great-grandmother, a famously gifted and enthusiastic cook who reputedly spent so much time at the oven she could lift out hot casseroles with her bare hands.

Cybele's eclectic food background has inspired a love of a wide range of cuisines, and in addition to recipes she learned during her fifteen years spent working in restaurants, she is constantly expanding her repertoire.

She has traveled the world extensively, making local food the focus of her trips. Food is her passion, and cooking fresh, delicious and healthy meals for her family and friends is a daily pleasure. Cybele learned about hypoallergenic cooking first hand when her son was diagnosed with severe food allergies, and made turning it into a delicacy her priority. She lives in Westchester County, NY with her husband, Broadway leading man Adam Pascal, and their sons Lennon and Montgomery.

Cybele Pascal was the 2002-2003 Playwright-in-Residence at the Juilliard School in New York City. She is the recipient of the 2003 Berilla-Kerr Playwriting award, two LeComte du Nouy awards from the Lincoln Center Foundation, a John Golden Playwriting Award, a Cherry Lane Playwriting Fellowship, A Schubert Playwriting Fellowship, a Juilliard Playwriting Fellowship, and an MFA from Columbia University. She is represented by Beacon Artists Agency and Sanford J. Greenburger Associates, Inc. She is a member of The Dramatists Guild of America.

"An estimated eleven million Americans now have food allergies, and the numbers are rising rapidly. There are many questions about why this is occurring, but this book is not intended to answer those questions. Rather, it is about all the wonderful, healthy and delicious foods you CAN eat. After a couple of months, you'll hardly notice that you've been on a special diet."

Restaurant Review
Bonobo's Restaurant in NYC at 18 E. 23rd Street was a great recent find! We were heading for the subway stop when my 12-year-old noticed Bonobo's and begged to go in.

Bonobo's is a great find for those of us who want organic food in a hurry, and don't eat refined cane sugar.

The chef's are friendly, informative and offer samples from the display case at the front of the restaurant. You can't call it a 'cooking' area because everything at Bonobo's is raw! We tried their "signature" Red Pepper-Coconut Soup, and it is absolutely delicious!

The Tabard Inn, Washington, D.C.

May 21, 2006

I will never again drive south without going to DC! The Tabard is worth the stop to stay and to eat. Imagine stepping into a feeling--not just a place, but a place with a feeling of home and history and activism. You walk into a room with 1800’s furniture, a fireplace and friendly people sitting and chatting while waiting for their meal or listening to the jazz guitarist. And then sitting down to eat a beautiful meal that is carefully and thoughtfully prepared with mostly organic ingredients,...
